Welcome to John Colet School, a K-6 co-educational, multi-faith school in Belrose. It is an honour to direct such an educational foundation, based as it is on principles of service, love and excellence.

The school, since its inception in 1985, has provided education which is both traditional and innovative: traditional in the systematic, sequenced teaching of the basic subjects such as English, Maths and Science; innovative in the introduction of Philosophy, Shakespeare, and Classical Languages to all age groups.

The effectiveness of this unique mix of the tried and true, with the imaginative, can be seen in happy, motivated children who love their school and teachers, and are enthusiastic about their studies.

It is the commitment of the teachers to their pupils and to the subjects they teach which brings this about. For many years the staff of John Colet School has studied the fundamental principles of education as expounded by the great teachers of both East and West. Some of these principles are: that children are naturally receptive and inclined to learn; that knowledge is best imparted with love, discipline and an absence of pressure; and that children learn best from teachers who are themselves disciplined, well-educated and who have a natural love for their students and their subjects.

We at John Colet endeavour to put these principles into practice and the happiness, energy and exuberance of the children are testimony to their effectiveness.

John Colet School is one of a growing community of schools world-wide seeking to rediscover and implement these basic educational principles. And the results so far are encouraging.
