Congratulations to the all our 6th class students. Their combined artwork (pictured above) has been hung as a finalist in the Gallipoli Art Prize.
We are the only school to take part in this prestigious art prize, and each year that we have entered, we have been finalists!
Their artwork, Lest We Forget’, reflects the involvement of the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders in WW1.
The students chose to depict the landing of Gallipoli from above, in the way that Indigenous artists depict the landscape and stories of their dreaming. They designed their own symbols showing the soldiers, the landing craft, the battle ships and the difficult terrain.
The colour palette used in this artwork was influenced by contemporary Indigenous art and the Gallipoli landscape.
This is the final year of the Gallipoli Art Prize, as it was started ten years ago to lead up to the centenary celebrations of the Gallipoli campaign.
