6th Class Year in Review – 2025

What a year it’s been!

From Swimming Carnival to the exciting buzz of Open Day all the way to Speech Night; so many exciting activities packed into one year. Year 6 has been by far the busiest, fun, and most eventful year in our journey through John Colet.

Our sunny day at the Swimming Carnival flew by in a splash of colour, excitement, and friendly competition.  We put in all our effort, knowing they would be our last races together, and we made every one count.

Open Day: One of our favourite days of the year. Our day started with various performances including Sanskrit, singing, ensemble and Shakespeare, all passionately presented. Afterwards, we enjoyed the day roaming around the school buying treats and doing activities, soaking up the fun atmosphere.

Our Athletics Carnival was held on the grass field, due to repairs on the track. But that didn’t stop us! We all had a great time, and made it out uninjured.

Mrs Renshaw took our weekly Philosophy classes. We discussed and explored topics like The Light of the Self and The Raft of Knowledge. We heard many engrossing stories like the blind men and the elephant and tales of the Upanishad, and learned many lessons, vital for our high school years and later in life.

Camp was another highlight – this year, we traveled to Bathurst! We explored Australia’s gold rush history, went gold panning, and even watched a blacksmith at work. Some of us were fortunate enough to do some hands-on work with the blacksmith like pumping billows for the kiln. We returned home tired, very muddy, full of knowledge, and more grateful than ever to feel the warm Sydney sunshine.

For music, singing, choir, and for some, orchestra and chamber ensemble, this year was filled with incredible fun, some out-of-tune voices, and plenty of silliness to go around. For art, our major works and self-portraits were a huge highlight, something we have never really done in art before. Although some of us had more paint on ourselves than on the canvas, we all enjoyed this opportunity thoroughly.

Now, as we come to the last chapter of our John Colet School adventure, we will forever carry with us the laughter, songs, lessons and cherished memories that have shaped who we are today. This year has taught us about leadership, teamwork and responsibilities through so many unique experiences that we are eternally grateful to have.

We’ll step into new beginnings, but never forget where it all began.
