Today, 22 children from Infants participated in our Annual JCS Chess Competition. They played 5 rounds of chess. The children were very engaged and well behaved.
Lily T from U1st took out the Girls medal, the winners of the U1st class medals were Dominic S and Sam J who tied. The winner of the 2nd class medal was Saskia T – who came 4th.
In Third place was Heidi P, in Second place was Siddhartha B and in 1st place on a perfect score was Leo P.
The experience of tournament play seemed to spike the interest of the children not currently taking lessons so I am hoping for a few new enrolments for next year. Sincere thanks to Mariana P for helping out in the early rounds, and also Mrs Tomaz.
Last Friday we had the Primary School Chess Competition, which was reported on last week. Daniel S will be collecting the Perpetual Trophy on Speech Night. On closer analysis of the full results some interesting performances stood out. Of particular note is Callum H who won 5 matches from 7 and came 10th overall – the highest placed non- Chess Club member. Saurav H from 3rd class came 7th overall. Saurav has had an amazing year, leading a Junior team to 1st place at Mona Vale early in the year and then not losing a match during the 7 week long NSW Primary School Teams Competition in Term 2 leading his team to 2nd place in our Region.
Last Sunday 3 teams of 3 represented our school at a large tournament at Knox Grammar. 138 Primary School teams from all over Sydney participated. Our JCS player of the tournament was Mimi P from 5C who won 6 out of 7 matches to help her team finish in the top quartile.
Next Wednesday we will be taking 3 teams of 3 from Primary School to Mona Vale for a One Day Northern Beaches Tournament organised by the NSW Junior Chess League. Wish us Luck!
