It is a very interesting time for our Chess Club. We received news this week that our Coach Miro Nowak is unavailable for the rest of the Term due to a family emergency overseas. We wish him all the best. We are very fortunate that we have been able to secure the services of Max Illingworth a young International Master and the current reigning Australian Champion. He is a local and he will commence with us from next week.
Last term we had a lot of somewhat unexpected success and we are now feeling very up beat about what may be possible this year. This week (Friday 1st May) sees the beginning of a 7 week Primary Teams Competition which is played after school with at John Colet or at other local schools. Our 4 teams are all scheduled to play at Mona Vale Public School for their first match up. With children from year 1-6 we are very grateful to the team of supportive parents who are volunteering to support the Club through this competition. Good luck to the teams!
Next week brings another local Heat of the Interschool Chess Challenge. I have registered 9 students to attend from year 2,4 & 6. We will be playing at Bilgola Plateau Public School.
Meanwhile it has been very encouraging to see our Enrolments increasing for Term 2. I think word is travelling about how much fun playing Chess can be!
Yours in Chess,
