John Colet dance has its tradition in the classical Indian genres – Abhinaya. The girls from Lower First to 2nd class participate in a dance class every Friday.On occasions the boys join the girls in Dance in which case Abhinaya is set aside to make way for another tradition; the English folk dances.The children really enjoy engaging in the partner dances. It stimulates hand to eye coordination, it enhances co-operation within a group activity which enables the children to express and communicate the intent, feelings and moods of creating movements using body parts.This forms part of the NSW curriculum of creative arts relating to performing dances and demonstrating expressive qualities and control over a range of locomotor and non-locomotor movements.
