Diverse talents on display at assemblies

A recent school assembly epitomised the breadth of talent within our student body, when a variety of awards were given out for school activities….

Earlier this year, John Colet School participated in the Australia My Country competition run annually by the Forestville RSL Sub Branch.  This year the theme was “Coming Home” and 350 primary school children entered from 21 local schools across 3 categories and 2 age groups. John Colet School entrants did very well, winning 4 of the 20 prizes.

The prizes were presented recently by Jonathan O’Dea MP at Forestville RSL Club.

Our Shakespeare Club who were presented with 1st Place, a stunning red sash, for their performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Sport for Jove State Shakespeare Carnival on Monday 27th May 2019. Both our performance groups (Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet) were awarded Highly Commended at the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod in the Scene from a Play Section on Saturday 25th May.

Our senior chess team competed in the heats of the Interschool Chess Competition recently. Overall in the school section, we came 2nd losing by just half a point to Mona Vale. In the Individual part of the competition we had 3 out of 12 places for the top point scorers of the day. They were: 3rd – Siddhartha B, 7th – Leo P, 10th – Winston Z.

John Colet fenced Newington College on Monday 27th May. It was great fun and everyone did really well. The Junior Team Allen L, Arya K, Charles W, Hugo B, and Mika S  won 15 – 12.
The senior team was Aditya G, Ayush O, Kristoff D, Joshua J, Jasmine E, and Lucas W lost in a tight match, 21 – 20.
