We have four teams taking part in the Friday afternoon Primary Schools Chess Challenge,
competing in the Championship, Intermediate, Rookie and Rookie Junior divisions.
Chess club co-ordinator and school parent Heather B says the regular competition is very good for children’s confidence and they enjoy the routine of visiting other schools to take part.
“The teams are going amazingly well, with each team coming in the top four of their divisions,” says Heather.
John Colet School has a strong chess club with almost half the school enrolled in lessons.
The senior players have their chess lessons on a Friday morning before school, Intermediate players after school on Mondays with other grades having their lessons during recess or lunchtime.
