This coming week is the final week of Term 2. As many of you are aware, my family and I are off to sunny Europe this Saturday (yeah!). Mrs Blank and the talented lunch ladies have taken up yet another challenge to serve the students (all their favourites) in my absence. Let’s all wish them well.

Next term, we will be introducing a new Department of Education and Community (DEC) initiative called Crunch & Sip . It is a simple program by which the students take a moment of their day to STOP, CRUNCH on something fresh (e.g. apple or carrots) and SIP on fresh, ordinary water. It is our policy at John Colet to send a healthy fresh fruit and drink in our lunch boxes for morning tea, which is, I m sure, something not too hard to reach for. And, if your child is hesitant, then some encouragement to join in is recommended. If we embrace this program, alongside our fantastically healthy lunches, full of fruits and vegetables, we are well in front of most if not all other schools in the State.

We have decided to have a fruit and vegetable of the month for Crunch & Sip that is listed on each newsletter, which will change at the beginning of each month. It is simply a recommendation of similar foods for all students to encourage each other. The first fruit and vegetable will be simply apples or carrots.

Please help your child and your school by playing your part in a worthy, lifelong and advantageous program such as healthy eating at school.
