John Colet 6th class students have been learning about the role horses played in the First World War. This is part of their preparation for their group entry into the Gallipoli Art Award, administered by the Gallipoli Memorial Club (www.gallipoli.com.au ) which John Colet School enters each year. They learnt about Sandy, the only Australian horse of the 130,000 sent, that returned to Australia from WW1. That was an emotional lesson!
The students also looked at historical photos of horses in the Great War, then created some etchings, some of which are below, as part of their early preparation for their class entry.
