Special guest at 6th class art

This week in art, 6th class welcomed guest speaker The Honourable Paul Munro, AO, who gave the students some historical background to the artwork they are working on for their entry into The Gallipoli Art Prize 2014.
The entry will be based on the ‘unknown’ history of The Battle of Bitapaka.
Mr Munro is a member of The Papua New Guinea Association of Australia.
This year, 2014, will be the Centenary of the Battle of Bitapaka. Fought on 11th September 1914, the battle saw the FIRST loss of life of an Australian in WW1.  In PNG, not, as many presume, in Europe/Gallipoli months later.
In September this year the PNGAA will be hosting a Symposium at NSW Parliament House with many guest speakers. Invitations have been sent to and acknowledged by the Prime Ministers of both countries, the Foreign Minister, Head of Defence and our Patron Maj Gen Michael Jeffries, plus historians, educators and many more. It is an aim to take the 6th class students in to hear some of the speakers.
