I had the pleasure earlier this week of attending my first John Colet Parents and Friends meeting. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their warm welcome and also thank them for the time they give to this very important part of our school. One of the key aspects of John Colet within our mission is the practice of service. We teach our children the importance of contributing to society and helping others as a regular part of their time at school. This may take the form of serving another in the lunchroom, mentoring a younger student or giving time to participate in an event. It is when this happens independently and voluntarily that we can appreciate that our children have understood the concept and importance of service.
Our Parents and Friends group is made up of volunteers who freely give up their time to serve our community and support the aims of the school. They are busy people, yet they make time to contribute. I urge you to support them in any way you can throughout the year. This can be as a class representative, event supporter, somebody who puts their hand up when there is a call for assistance, or perhaps just takes the time to say thank you.
