Making moon buggies
As part of our unit on Space, 5th class have been researching, designing and making our very own lunar space buggies.
We visited the website http://www.armaghplanet.com/blog/nasas-lunar-rover-everything-you-need-to-know.html to learn about the original rover which was built for the moon exploration and the various items needed on the buggy in order for the astronauts to complete their scientific investigations.
Our buggies had to be made using a timber frame model so there was lots of sawing and learning about the properties of cardboard triangles for joints. Each buggy had to be able to travel over a rough moonlike surface without becoming stuck, losing a driver or shedding its scientific load.
5th class had lots of fun completing the project and really enjoyed working together. Be sure to visit our classroom on Open Say, Sunday 29th May, to see our buggies close up.
