When a fire raged through the main hall and adjoining buildings of John Colet School last year, the devastation sadly lead to the cancelation of the highly successful annual art show.
This year, on Friday 24th May, the show is back on again and better than ever. Artworks on display, in the brand new building, will include a Jasper Knight screen print (many time finalist in the Archibald, Wynne, Sulman Prize) and an etching by Jana Hunt (finalist in Dobell and Adelaide Perry Prizes, winner of the Waverly and Hunters Hill Prizes). Suey McEnnally, winner of the 2012 Paddington Art Prize, will also have pieces hung alongside an impressive lineup of many local artists.
The John Colet School has a strong visual arts programme for its own pupils too, and students from Year 6 were recently finalists in the Gallipoli Art Prize, with etchings depicting the horses which supported the Australian war effort.
Starting at 7.30 pm, the opening night will feature live music from the jazz trio Hypermojo, delicious canapés and a bar. Funds raised from this event will go towards education resources at John Colet and also towards supporting the art therapy / play program at Bear Cottage (the children’s hospice in Manly).
