John Colet School abuzz with end of year activity

From the Stage Coordinators

The school is abuzz with end-of-year activity:  it’s no longer Shakespeare resounding in the halls of the school, but rather, angelic singing being rehearsed for Speech Night.
Next week is our last serious week, although serious may not be the correct epithet!  Lots of fun coming up!
Monday is the Sports Carnival at Narrabeen, Tuesday is the Nativity Play by 2nd Class, and the Collection of Gifts for the Needy, (Treasure Chest outside the Hall), Wednesday is a Speech Night rehearsal in Chatswood (Primary only);  Thursday is the 6th Class Farewell lunch (put on by the 5th Class);  and Friday is & Picnic Day.    Please remember at Sports Day and at Picnic Day, to sign off with Class Teachers before taking children home.
Children travelling to the Sports Carnival with their parents or friends SHOULD JOIN THEIR CLASS TEACHER once the school bus has arrived.  They will stay in the care of their teachers till dismissed to go home.
The Nativity is traditionally accompanied by gift giving on the part of the children, with suitable items going to the needy and underprivileged.   These will be collected in the large Treasure Chest that will be placed outside the Maclaren Hall. We hope to receive some gifts for 15-year-old girls, suitable to the Warwick Farm group.  All gifts should not be gift wrapped.
Monday 2nd is Speech Night and is a half day for the school.  Please check times and uniform protocol.  A little word about after Speech Night &families may wish to socialise and have a meal out.  Could we ask that the children honour their school and support their School Values by behaving in public to the standard that they well know the school upholds, particularly respect for others.

During the year the teachers have been given time to study and implement the new English curriculum which comes into effect in 2014.  This has a strong literary flavour, whilst at the same time incorporating grammar, spelling, writing, reading and comprehension and so on, to a high standard.
Teachers will be meeting from Tuesday 3rd December through to the end of the week.  This is a time for study, reflection and planning.
