John Colet School Chess club update for Term 2

Primary Chess Teams Competition Update:
Our B Team and D Team this week are heading off to Seaforth Public School.   Our A and C Team have a Bye.  We will be hosting the following two Fridays.  On the 12th the B and D Team will be facing Mona Vale and Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC).  On the 19th our A and C Team will be facing OLGC and Seaforth.  So the Competition will be all wrapped up at the end of the term 🙂

Open Day
Congratulations to Jason N who had his winning ticket drawn on Open Day for our hamper.  He was absolutely thrilled!

Large Chess Board
In preparation for the Open Day the Club purchased a Large Nylon Chess Board which is fixed into the grass with pegs – to go with our existing Large Chess pieces.  These are now available for special occasions at school.  If any teacher/class should like to use them, please let me know.  If anyone would like to borrow them for use at a private/community event, assuming return in good condition, then I’m sure something can be arranged 🙂

IM Max Illingworth – Chess Coach
We would like to congratulate Max on some recent wins.  At the 50th Peninsula Open over two days on 16 & 17 May he came first out of 69 competitors.  It is now believed that his live ranking is the highest in Australia!  Max is preparing to compete at several European tournaments in Term 3.

Just for Fun!
If your child would enjoy playing in a competition in the upcoming School Holidays then the Sydney Academy of Chess has a half day tournament (1pm-4pm) on 27 June in Pymble or on the 11 July in Forestville.  Mor information can be found here:  https://www.sydneyacademyofchess.com.au/tournaments/upcoming
