A busy week, 100 days in, for Lower 1st
We had a wonderful range of learning experiences in and outside the classroom in Week 3. On Monday, we celebrated Teacher’s Day, honouring all the teachers in our lives. Thank you to all families for sending in a flower as a symbol of gratitude–it made the day very special. The children reflected on the importance of teachers by writing about a special teacher in their lives and what they have learned from them. In Science, we began learning about the plant life cycle by planting seeds in our individual ‘greenhouses’. This week in Lower 1st
We’ve had a wonderful and engaging week in Lower 1st. The children enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and explored the life cycle of a butterfly before beginning to write a recount of the story. They also took an important step in their writing journey by learning how to use a lined book. In Science, we investigated different types of clouds, discovering how they relate to the weather, and used Cloud Identification Frames to observe the sky alongside our 6th Class buddies. Week 7 in Lower 1st
It has been another busy week in Lower 1st. We have read and retold and summarized the story ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Wadell. In Mathematics we have been learning to count, write and represent numbers from 0-20 and model simple subtraction problems. They’ve only been in school 6 weeks!
We have had a busy and exciting week in Lower 1st, filled with hands-on learning and creative activities. In Mathematics, we explored addition by working on number bonds to 5. In English, the children went on a ‘Caterpillar Walk’ around the playground, stopping at different locations. Along the way, we took photos and used them to learn about verbs, past tense and prepositions before writing a recount of the caterpillar’s adventures. We then created beautiful caterpillar artworks with the help of our 6th Class Buddies. In Science, we began learning about the seasons, exploring how the weather and environment change throughout the year. This week, the students also presented their first news item. Our first weeks in Lower 1st
This week, we visited the Life Education Van to have a lesson about creating and maintaining positive friendships. We discussed the signals our body gives us when we are feeling worried, how to recognise if a friend is feeling upset and how to be a good friend. The highlight, of course, was meeting the famous Harold the giraffe! Buddies We are lucky to have a wonderful group of 6th class Buddies who visit us regularly for games, craft activities, reading and more. In the last few weeks, our buddies have joined us to create ‘Shape Faces’, read stories and play in the playground. News Students deliver their news every two weeks.
