New club planned – Yoga

John Colet School is introducing yoga as a new extra-curricular club for students of all ages?

We will be starting regular yoga classes at the school in Term 3 on Wednesdays at 3:15-4pm. The cost will be $8 per student. Mats provided. Students to please bring a change of clothes on that day. To secure a spot, or to find out more, SMS the experienced yoga instructor, Pia O’Connor, on 0424 128 226. www.youngyogis.com.au

Pia is enthusiastic about the benefits of yoga for children.

Yoga is non-competitive. It teaches children that we are all different and we are all perfect the way we are. There is no better or worse at yoga, it is all about exploring and learning in your own time. Yoga truly is for everybody.

Pia says yoga also teaches students acceptance and tolerance of others.

Without a doubt this a wonderful way to create more peaceful local communities and a more peaceful world for our future.

While encouraging physical activity and exercise, yoga will also teach a healthy approach to eating, mental/emotional balance as well as nature appreciation.

And Pia says yoga gives children tools to let their minds slow down and settle.
They learn tools on how to relax and be still, how to handle stress and pressure they might face as they grow up.

School student Sierra H says- “I like the partner poses, doing yoga makes me feel relaxed and strong.”

And her sister Caly adds- “Doing yoga makes me happy.”
