I have been trolley dropping on people while I m shopping for our school meals and realised how much Not-So-Healthy food there is in them. I think people are getting overwhelmed with packaging and great marketing terms while trying to make good decisions.
Here are some to be aware of:
Pre-packaged smoothies they may contain some crushed fruit, but they are mainly juice that has no fibre. Also beware of the types of flavours and syrups, as they can be very high in calories.
Vegetable chips these are just as bad as everyday potato chips. Don t kid yourself they are not covered in fat and salt. Find the air-dried ones.
The big Bran Muffin bran is all that is good! These are always oversized and contain the basic ingredients of our childhood favourite, the cup cake.
The trick is to take the time to read the nutritional panel, find some great products (they do exist) and stick to them. Alternatively make some homemade goodies every 2-3 weeks and freeze them for a healthy snack with fresh fruit and milk.
Eat Well,
Donna
