This week, we visited the Life Education Van to have a lesson about creating and maintaining positive friendships. We discussed the signals our body gives us when we are feeling worried, how to recognise if a friend is feeling upset and how to be a good friend. The highlight, of course, was meeting the famous Harold the giraffe!
Buddies
We are lucky to have a wonderful group of 6th class Buddies who visit us regularly for games, craft activities, reading and more. In the last few weeks, our buddies have joined us to create ‘Shape Faces’, read stories and play in the playground.
News
Students deliver their news every two weeks. Their first news item is in Week 6 (10th – 14th March) on their specified day. The first topic is ‘My extended family’. We ask you to either email or print a photo of your child’s extended family. This may include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Students should talk about who the members of their extended family are and share some details about where they live or an occasion that they were together. Please take a few minutes the day before their news to help your child think about and practice what they will say. News items should go for between 1-2 minutes.
Class Writing
Beginning Week 5 (3rd March), we will be inviting parent volunteers to help the children with their writing. Please let us know if you intend to come by putting your name in the spreadsheet distributed by Lipi and Maryam via WhatsApp. This will ensure that we have a manageable and consistent number of helpers each day. There is no obligation to volunteer and there will be many other opportunities to visit the classroom and support your children throughout the year. An overview of our writing instruction method has been provided. On your first day, we ask that you try to arrive a little early (8:20am) so that teachers may explain the process and have you sign the confidentiality agreement.
Class lists
We have worked very hard these last few weeks to create balanced, equal, harmonious classes. The news roster and individual class timetables have been distributed to help you plan your week.
