Teaching Sanskrit at John Colet School 2015

The year has been a busy one with lots of highlights.  In May, we both visited Ireland to learn about the new Sanskrit course for children which they teach at the John Scottus School in Dublin.   So with some classes we are introducing songs that come from this curriculum and the children are really enjoying a different approach to some of the grammar.  Next year will see a more systematic introduction of this with lots of classes learning songs from this course.

The second week of June saw our favourite event of the year, the Sanskrit Recitation Competition Finals, which were most inspiring and moving as the children recite with such purity and devotion.  The judges found the decisions so difficult that there were several ties for first place and they stated how impressed they were at the standard of recitation.

The most challenging event of course was eight students from 6th Class sitting the International Sanskrit Exam in October and doing brilliantly!  They had a great, though challenging year and were thrilled with the results.  A special thanks and congratulations to their teachers – Mrs Kearney and Mrs Childs.

We would like to thank the support and inspiration of all class teachers over the year and are always thankful for the privilege to be teaching such delightful and interested children.
Wishing all a safe, happy and restful holiday.
