What have we learnt this week?
English- We have learning about Persuasive Writing. In pairs and groups students discuss a topic given to them and come up with whether they agree or disagree with the statement
and come up with reasons for both. They then complete a persuasive writing piece. They also completed explicit spelling lessons learning about homophones, revised some
irregular words, tenses – past, present and future. We explored the ‘ch’ sound using the phoneme /k/ in the beginning, middle and the end of words. The children also completed
comprehension, grammar and handwriting lessons. We are so impressed by the speeches so far and look forward to more next week.

Mathematics – This week the children focused on Subtraction. We looked at a variety of strategies such as counting on the find the difference, counting back, jump strategy and
compensation. The children finished off the week with multi-step problem-solving questions and multiplication fluency practice where they consolidated their knowledge of
multiples of 5’s and 10’s.

Philosophy – We are continuing The Five Elements of Creation – Space (Stillness),Air (touch), Fire (Sight and light), Water(taste) and Earth (smell). This will continue for many
weeks as we explore all these elements.

PDH- This week looked at safety when roller skating, scootering, bike riding and skateboarding. We discussed areas that were the safest to do these activities and what
safety equipment we should wear.

Geography – This week we continued looked at Natural, Managed and Constructed environments, talking about how we care for places and the upkeep of places and how
this makes a difference. This week we specifically explored and discussed The Great Barrier Reef.

Science – This Week in Science we continued looking at mammals. We discovered that there are three types of mammals. We looked at Monotremes, Marsupials and Placentals.
We talked about how to define these groups of animals and what types of animals we can classify in each group.
