Our spelling and reading focus this week has been “oa”. We also learned about the “shwa” sound and how common it is in Australian accents. In short burst writing the children wrote about a ‘Staircase to the Moon’ and with the help of our wonderful parents, we wrote an informative description of a Thorny Devil. In grammar, we have been learning how to extend our sentences to include when and where.
Maths: This week the children continue to learn how to count forward and backwards 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s from any starting point. The children also identified and described patterns when skip counting using a number line, 100’s chart, counting on and counting down.
Philosophy: Our focus has moved to forgiveness. We discussed with the children about how forgiving others makes not only them, but also you, happier and more at peace.
Geography: We looked in detail at the Pinnacles in Western Australia. We learned about how they were created as well as the Aboriginal Dreamtime story connected with it. We discussed the meaning of a sacred site.
Shakespeare: The children are enjoying their drama lessons with Claire Lilla each week. They are all doing such an amazing job learning their lines. We have asked the children to read over their lines again making sure that they respond to punctuation i.e., taking a breath when there is a full stop, changing their tone when they are asking a question. The children should be saying their lines out aloud and slower so that they can incorporate movement, actions and speaking their lines in character. For the children that have already rehearsed their scenes with Ms Lilla they should now be practicing this at home. This should include practicing their movements, actions and speaking their lines in character. Thank you for your cooperation.
In the Garden: On Thursday, Upper 1st W visited the garden with Mrs Green. We looked at food processes, how the food gets from the farm to the shop. The children used Lego to create their own farms. Mrs Green even let the children try some jam made by Mrs Layton. She had used the Davidson plumbs from the tree outside our classroom last year.
