Three tournaments in three weeks

More wonderful results to report

Three tournaments in three weeks and more wonderful results to report.  On Wednesday 156 children, organised in  52 teams of 3, from 12 schools played at Mona Vale Public School in the Northern Beaches Chess Teams Challenge.  John Colet took 4 teams, having taken the decision to ‘rest’ our Year 5 boys which make up the majority of our Senior Chess Class.  With this in mind we did not anticipate having a particularly glorious day – but a great experience and some fun.  The lesson being:  Never underestimate JCS when it comes to Chess!

Our John Colet B Team of Girls Captained by Mi Mi P and abley supported by Scout H and Amelia G had the Tournament of their lives coming 8th overall AND taking out the “Best Girls Team” Trophy. When Scout was presented with her Trophy on stage Richard Gastineau-Hills of the NSW Junior Chess League noted that she had indeed not lost any matches during the tournament.  In fact the Girls were only 1 point away from sharing in 2nd place overall.

Our John Colet D Team were drawn from our Intermediate Class which is held on a Monday between 3 and 4pm, Captained by Saurav H and supported by his brother Eshaan H (from 3rd class) and Siddhartha B from U1st, this was their first external Tournament.  With 12pts from their 7 matches they easily took the Trophy for Best Junior Team (K-3) and actually came 15th overall.

Our John Colet A Team Captained by Thomas J and supported by Liam McW and Michael T came in 11th place.  C Team Captained by Ramakrishna B and supported by Sebastian P and Aidan H came 24th.  There were some very noteworthy performances by members of both teams.

Miro Nowak our Chessmater was left’speechless’ by our results.

Special thants to Katrina P, Mi Mi’s Mum and Chetna H, Saurav and Eshan’s Mum, for driving and assisting on the day.

Coming up next Term on Fridays after school, we will participate and host (every 2nd week) the Primary Schools Chess Teams Competition, with 4 teams of 4 chess players across 4 levels of Chess, from Championship through to Junior Rookies.

If any JCS parent would like to keep up to date with our Chess Club we have a Closed Facebook Group called “John Colet Chess Club” that you may request to become a member of.  I try to put updates of what happens in the classes, as well as links and resources to assist with your little Chess Champions, photos from our tournaments and Chess Quotes and “Fun Facts”.

If you or your child were not sure at the beginning of the school year whether the Chess Club was for them, then now might be a good time to reconsider.  I would be particularly thrilled to have more Year 4 children and girls.  Year 3 and up would commence in the Intermediate Class on Monday afternoons directly after school.
