JCS Chess into the finals
On Wednesday I took a team of five from our Senior Chess group to play in the Sydney Academy of Chess, Interschool Chess Semi Finals. This was a tougher competition than the heats, but the team worked hard and achieved the excellent result of third place, which will take the team into the finals. The team represented John Colet School with pride and demonstrated the School Values throughout the competition. The team consisted of the following students: Connor T (6W), Will T (3B) Sebastian N (6M) Jamie X (6M) and Liam Y (5S). Connor also received third place overall in the competition.

We went through the winners of the Archibald, Wynne and the Sulman and even saw one of Mrs Allcorn’s seasonal paintings as she was a finalist in the Wynne! We then saw the magnificent Youth Archibald prizes! We had a great day and we were delighted Mrs Allcorn could join us.

Debating
The topic of the debate against St Augustine’s today was “That only modern books should be taught in English”. As usual, the format was that each school had two teams, one to argue the affirmative and one to argue the negative.
This week, our Negative and our Affirmative team won their debates.
