English: This week was our revision and assessment week of all of the phonemes that we have been focusing on this term: ai, ay, ie, igh, –y, -y, ee, ea, oa. We also read the story of The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl. We used this as inspiration for both our short burst and extended writing this week. The children did a wonderful job using adjectives in their writing.

Geography: We focused on Monkey Mia and Turquoise Bay in Western Australia. We spoke about what Traditional Owners means, and we looked at natural and built features.

Maths: This week we are looking at length. We are using informal units to measure lengths and we are discussing the need for a more uniformed way to measure.

Health: This week we looked at Who is in my family? And the roles and responsibilities of each member of the family. We identified different types of families and discussed the
different roles and responsibilities of members in our own families.
Science: This week we explored light. The children answered the following questions: What is light? Where does light come from? How do we use light in our everyday lives? We
investigated how light moves in a straight line, blocking light can create shadows, and how light from the classroom can be reflected.

Persian New Year – Nowruz
This afternoon parents Catherine and Ima came in to talk to us about Persian New Year. The children painted and decorated eggs as a symbol of fertility and new life. We would like to
thank Catherine and Ima for helping the children in this activity.

Shakespeare: The children are enjoying their drama lessons with Claire Lilla each week. They are all doing such an amazing job learning their lines. We have asked the children to read over their lines again making sure that they respond to punctuation i.e., taking a breath when there is a full stop, changing their tone when they are asking a question. The children should be saying their lines out aloud and slower so that they can incorporate movement, actions and speaking their lines in character. For the children that have already rehearsed their scenes with Ms Lilla they should now be practicing this at home. This should include practicing their movements, actions and speaking their lines in character.
